May Movement Challenge

May Movement Challenge

If you’ve been finding that you’re a little less active lately, motivation levels might be low or you just love a challenge to keep you accountable? If yes, then this is for you!  Perfection is not the goal of this challenge – it’s come as you are, do what you can and use what you have.

The aim of this challenge is to set realistic goals that fit with your lifestyle. If you’re looking to get more movement in this month, this challenge will hopefully keep you motivated, accountable and focused and to move your body every day in May for 30 minutes.  I have compiled a monthly calendar to keep us accountable .  Personally, I want to incorporate stretching/mobility, so I plan to allocate at least 10-20  minutes each day.  I would like to see how I can improve my mobility after 31 days of consistency.

The key to success is to mix it up between various activities that you enjoy throughout the month. Thirty minutes of movement might look like a leisurely walk/jog/run, a pilates class, strength class, bike ride or swim. If you’ve been struggling to catch up on some of our online strength workouts, perhaps you could add an extra class each week to your workout schedule. By the end of May you will notice a huge improvement in your strength with 3 consistent classes per week.

“I don’t have 30 minutes every day!”

If you don’t have 30 minutes to spare every day, then break it up into 10 minute increments? This could look like a 10 minute morning workout, a 10 minute afternoon walk and a 10 minute stretch before bed. It doesn’t have to be done all at once in order to be effective. Remember, that a little bit is better than no movement.

What the challenge is NOT

It’s not a challenge to run a 5k every day or to do 100 pushups or squats in a day. The goal of this challenge is to get you moving…and enjoy it!  We want this experience to be fun and enjoyable.

What if I miss a day?

This challenge is not about perfection, it’s about doing your very best. You’ll still reap the benefits of the challenge if you miss one or two days out of the entire month! I think the BIGGER challenge for most people is that if you miss a day, can you pull yourself back on track? And the answer is, YES OF COURSE YOU CAN!

How to stay motivated
Thirty-one days can feel like long, so how can you ensure to keep going? Just remember that getting started is always the hardest part! Make a commitment to yourself to do it for 10 minutes, even if it’s just a walk. Download and print out the calendar and place it somewhere visible – for every day you complete, mark an X. Invite your friends & family to come join the challenge and the group for added accountability and some friendly competition! You can contact me and let me know how you are getting on.  Remember, Action Leads To Motivation! So move first, then get motivated. What happens once the challenge is over?
You keep going!!! The great thing about this challenge is that it teaches you to be consistent and helps to engrave those healthy habits into the brain!
